Love Affair with MV Doulos and Books
Have you already seen a floating library? Have you been inside a floating library?
I just want you to share my first experience in visiting the floating library or the MV Doulos.
Last February 12, 2007, the faculty gave us circulars about the MV Doulos, it stated that all First years and Second years will visit the MV Doulos on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 from 1:00-5:00 pm and all Third years and Fourth years will visit it on Thursday, February 15, 2007 from 1:00-5:00 pm. It also stated that all students should wear Intrams T-shirt, pants, closed shoes, and our school ID. We should also be provided with an extra fare. We were also paying our fare in our private service of 15 pesos. After our lunch break, I immediately prepared all the things I needed in the trip to MV Doulos. I settled myself in going to MV Doulos. When our private service arrived, we immediately get inside in the jeepney, together with Mr. Elmer Montejo. While going to the MV Doulos, we were talking and playing to each when one of my classmates suggested a song that should be sung by Mr. Elmer but he suggested the song “Chuvalernz, Chuvalernz”. While going to Doulos, we where singing “Chuvalernz, Chuvalernz” led by Mr. Elmer and all of us where happy on the trip.
When we arrived at the MV Doulos, I was so excited to see all the books inside the ship. We formed a line in going inside the Doulos ship and when I got inside the ship, I was so amazed on all the books inside the ship. It stated there that there were almost 6,000 books inside the ship and their were also different crews from different countries. I read a lot of books and they also sell some CD’s and tapes of songs. Inside the ship, they also sell some foods and snacks and I would like to buy a cookie but their cookies were all sold out so I just ate the ice cream which cost 30 peso. Their ice cream was very expensive but it really tasted good. When I saw the note and read it, I was shocked because if you were going outside, you never enter again. So I have lost my chance to buy just only one book in the MV Doulos. So all of my extra time was only spent to nothing and I just walked along the ship together with my classmates. After sometime we were all called to go out from book shop. I thought our trip in the MV Doulos was over but that’s not all. We were all called to go out the book shop because we were going to the Conference Room to watch a little presentation about the MV Doulos, its history, and its facts.
On the Conference Room, one crew of the MV Doulos, Felipe, serves as a host for us. He finds some 3 brave volunteers to come in front. In the UP, there were 2 representatives and 1 representative from the ALC; he asked some questions to the representatives. At the next game, again he asked some 2 brave volunteers to come in front. We have 1 representative and they also have 1 representative. They are asked to wear the suit, the life jacket, the helmet and the gloves and after wearing these, they must go near the gong and strike on it. After the game, all of were now going back to our campus. When we went down the ship, our services has arrived except for ours, we waited for a long to time. While waiting, Sir Elmer takes us a picture then after we played. After a long time, at last our service has arrived.
While going back to our school, almost all of my classmates were knockdown and they were asleep. All of us where tired on our trip to Doulos but it is still enjoying. I hope I can come back in that ship again.
